In menus and the pack the mouse is a normal pointer: click, drag items, right-click for half, Shift-click to move a stack. Esc gives the mouse back to the browser and pauses; click the game to continue. A game controller works too (press a button on it). On a phone or tablet touch controls appear while you play. Your own worlds are kept in this browser's storage; clearing site data deletes them. The Seidr World is kept on the server.

VR headset (the Enter VR button only shows when the browser supports it): left stick moves, right stick snap-turns, right trigger breaks / attacks, right grip places / uses, A jumps, B sneaks, X pack, Y journal, left trigger / grip change the item, left stick click sprints, right stick click pauses. In menus the sticks navigate and the right trigger confirms.

The Seidr World

One shared, persistent survival world. Everyone arrives at the Seidr Hall in the middle, then walks out to explore, build and survive together. It is a normal-difficulty survival world: monsters come out at night, you need food, and you build what you need. The ground around the Hall (48 blocks) is protected so the plaza stays a meeting place. Chat with T, talk to people nearby by holding V (the browser asks for the microphone first).

Guest or account?

Guest: press Join and play. You get a random name; it is kept in this browser.
Account: your own name that nobody else can take, and the world remembers where you stopped, so you start there next time on any device where you sign in. Builds you make are kept in the world for everyone. Your pack, hotbar and worn armour are saved too, so you keep your things on any device where you sign in.

Controls

Computer: W A S D to move, mouse to look, left button breaks, right button places, E for the pack, Esc to pause (and to get the mouse back).
Phone and tablet: touch controls appear while you play: a stick on the left, drag the right side to look, buttons for Hit, Use, Jump, Sneak, Pack and Saga.
Gamepad: press any button; left stick moves, right stick looks, A jumps.
VR headset: if your browser supports it an Enter VR button appears. VR is new and has not been tested on real headsets yet; tell us how it goes.

How to play: your first hour

Choose a character and press Join. You arrive at the Seidr Hall in the middle of the world. Right-click (or Use) the rune stone by the hall to read the rules.
Walk out of the plaza. The 48 blocks around the Hall are protected, so you build further out.
Get wood. Hold the break button on a tree. Open the pack (E, X on a pad), go to the Crafting tab: make planks, a crafting table, then a pickaxe and an axe. Stone and ore come from the rock; you need the pickaxe for them.
Be ready before night. Draugr and other monsters spawn in the dark. Build a small shelter, put torches around it, and keep a sword at hand (select it on the hotbar, 1–9).
Eat. Your food bar drops as you work. Meat, bread and berries refill it; with a full bar your hearts heal by themselves.
Armor. The top row of the pack has five worn slots: head, chest, legs, feet and back. Every set has four pieces (helmet, chestplate, leggings, boots) and all of them add to the defence number. Pick a piece up and put it in its slot, or hover it and press Z (R2 on a pad). Hold the shield button with a shield in hand to block.
The saga journal (F, Y on a pad) holds the story and your tasks. Follow it to find the villages, the dwarven halls and the bosses.
Say hello. T opens the chat, hold V to talk to people close to you (the browser asks for the microphone once).

In VR your hotbar and hearts float above your left wrist: lift the arm to look at them. Settings (pause menu, Settings): auto-jump, which hand aims, which wrist.
