Hold V and speak normally. Whisper writes it down, the IntentRouter works out what you meant, and the scheduler does it. Several requests in one sentence work too.

A friend in your world who does what you say.
Talk to her and she fights, mines, smelts, cooks, crafts and follows you. Nova Quantum is a free Fabric mod under the MIT licence. You bring your own OpenAI key, so you only pay OpenAI for what you use.
Running a server? NovaSync lets everyone else see her too.

What she can do
Shipping now, and next.
Quantum is being rebuilt feature by feature from the original Nova. Shipping means it works in the current build. In progress means it is being built or carried over.
Combat
She spots threats, switches to her best weapon, fights, and falls back when her health is low. She rescans for closer targets and watches her tool durability.
Mining
“Mine me some iron”, or diamonds, or coal: she strip-mines and branch-mines at the right depth for the ore, and brings the drops back.
Crafting
She works any recipe back to raw materials and crafts every step. Ask for a diamond pickaxe and she makes the planks, the sticks, the table, then the pickaxe.
Smelting and cooking
Furnace smelting and campfire cooking. She places a station from her inventory or crafts one, picks a campfire for food, and hands the result to you.
Follow and travel
She keeps up at a sprint and recovers when you get far ahead. She walks the world like a player, with no teleporting while you are in reach.
She talks back, briefly
Quiet most of the time, and short when it matters: “on it”, “got it”, a warning in a fight. No monologues.
Building from blueprints
Next on the roadmap: the original Nova’s catalogue of more than 45 blueprints. Houses, towers, walls and bridges, placed block by block like a player.
Companion menu and skins
The G menu (inventory, stats, settings and skin picker) is being carried over. Until then she uses the default Steve skin.
Install
Playing with her in five minutes.
You need Minecraft Java Edition. The mod runs on Windows 10 and 11, macOS 12 or newer and Linux, in single player and on servers, next to most other Fabric mods.
Install Fabric Loader
Download the installer from fabricmc.net, run it and choose Minecraft 1.21.11. Your launcher gets a “Fabric” profile.
Add Fabric API
Get the 1.21.11 version from Modrinth and put the .jar in your mods folder.
Add Nova Quantum
Download it here or from Modrinth, and put it in the same mods folder:

Launch with Fabric
Choose the Fabric profile in the launcher and press Play. The first time, Quantum asks for your OpenAI key and saves it in
config/quantum/secrets.json. It stays on your computer.Say hello
Press Y to call her, hold V and try “follow me”, “mine some iron”, “cook me some beef” or “craft me a diamond pickaxe”.
Multiplayer
Bring her to a server.
Quantum works on any Fabric-compatible server. On her own, only you see her. When the server runs NovaSync, everyone sees her as a real player, with her skin, walk and gear, even players on Bedrock.

The Nova servers
The shared Nova servers (one international, one in South Africa, Java and Bedrock) are offline. When they come back, their addresses will be posted on this page.

Yes. Quantum is free under the MIT licence. There is no subscription. You pay OpenAI directly for the voice and chat you use, through your own key.
Why does she need an OpenAI key?
Whisper turns your voice into text and a language model works out what you meant, both through your own OpenAI key. The key is saved in config/quantum/secrets.json and stays on your computer.
Which Minecraft version?
Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.11 with Fabric Loader 0.18.1 or newer, Fabric API and Java 21. The mod is for Java Edition only. Bedrock players can still play next to her on a server that runs NovaSync.
What can I say to her?
“Follow me”, “come here”, “stay here”, “mine some iron”, “smelt 10 iron”, “cook me some beef”, “craft a diamond pickaxe”, “kill that zombie”. Building, finding structures and open conversation are still being carried over from the original Nova.
Which languages does she understand?
Whisper understands more than 50 languages. For now she answers in English; more languages are on the roadmap.
Why is the version 0.8?
Version 0.8 means the survival skills are shipping: combat, mining, smelting, cooking, crafting and following. Building, skins and the companion menu come next.
What happened to the original Nova mod?
The original Nova AI Minecraft Friend reached version 1.1.314, about 30 000 lines, and was retired in May 2026. Quantum is its clean rebuild: the same idea with a smaller, sturdier design, built in public. The old mod is no longer distributed.
